Enterprise CostOS 7 Update –
CostOS Server & Workstation
PART 1 -
CostOS Server
This guide will help you update your CostOS Enterprise setup to version 7 .

It is highly recommended to have a recent backup of your CostOS databases before updating to a newer version. This way you can restore to this previous point if you find out that the update did not improve your user experience.
Before you start with the process, you need to make sure that no-one is using the particular CostOS Server at that moment. You should also have logged in windows as an administrator user at the computer CostOS Server is hosted.To proceed you need to stop CostOS Server. To do so, on Windows Search, search for Services. Start Services, browse the list until you find the one named Nomitech CostOS, right click on it and select 'Stop'.You are now ready to begin the update process:

  1. Right click on the CostOS Server update file. Select 'Run as administrator'. Choose 'Yes' on any Windows UAC prompt that asks you for permission.


2.Click on the circle next to 'I accept the Agreement' after reading it. Click on the now enabled 'Next' button to continue.

3.Click on 'Next' to proceed.

4.Click on the 'Update' button. Please confirm that you have backed up your CostOS databases from SQL Database Server before proceeding.





5.Wait for the setup to finish the process.


6.Your CostOS Server has been updated successfully. Click on 'Finish' to continue.

After the update process, you need to restart the 'Nomitech CostOS' Windows Service. To do this, on Windows Search, search for Services. Start Services, browse the list until you find the one named Nomitech CostOS, right click on it and select 'Start'. CostOS Service should be up and running in about a minute.



PART 2 -
CostOS Workstation

It is highly recommended that, before you start updating your CostOS Workstation, you make sure that the CostOS Server you usually connect to with it runs on the version you want to update the Workstation to. This means that if you want to update your installation to version B, you should start the process with the Server and then continue with your Workstation.Before you start with the process, you need to make sure that no-one is logged in this particular CostOS Workstation at that moment. You should also have logged in windows as an administrator user at the computer this CostOS Workstation is installed.
1.Right click on the CostOS Workstation update file. Select 'Run as administrator'. Choose 'Yes' on any Windows UAC prompt that asks you for permission.

  1. 2.If there is only one CostOS Workstation installation in this computer, click on 'Next' to continue. If not, Select 'Perform Mandatory update action', set the path of the Workstation

you would wish to update and click 'Next'.

3. Click on the circle next to 'I accept the Agreement' after reading it. Click on the now enabled 'Next' button to continue.


4 Please wait for the installer to finish the update process.

5.Here you may modify the access permission settings for other Windows users if you want. Click 'Next' to continue.

6.Below componets are required for CostOS to run. If you are not sure if any of these are installed on your machine, please tick the relevant checkboxes, click 'Next' and wait for the selected components to be installed

  1. Your CostOS Workstation has been updated successfully. You may click on 'Finish' to close the setup.

CostOS Server

  1. Q. I see the above message after I click the update button on Step 4. What should I do?
  2. A. Please stop CostOS Server, following the instructions at the beginning of the guide. If needed, you may ask help from your IT department.

 

CostOS Workstation

  1. Q. I do not have the setup file to update CostOS Workstation.

A.Make sure that you are connected to the network CostOS Server is installed on. Visit the following website on a web browser- IE not supported: '<Server_IP>:8080/ces' where <Server_IP> is the network IP address of the machine CostOS Server is installed on. Click on one of the links under the log in form to download the corresponding CostOS Workstation Setup, depending on the Windows Version you are running. You should be able to see now the setup file you need in your 'Downloads' folder. 2.Q.The following (or similar)  message appears during the update process. 

A.There is an instance of the Workstation running by a user. This may mean that it is open, or that the CostOS Enterprise Workstation Windows process has not been terminated successfully by one or more CostOS users who have access to this Workstation. Please ask all the users who have access to this Workstation to close it if they have it open and if that fails, contact your IT to make sure there are no CostOS Enterprise Workstation processes running for any user who has access to this Workstation.
