FAQ 1. Q. (STEP 5) How do I know the credentials (username/password) that I should use here?
A.If you are not the one who did the Database Server Installation and configuration,do not remember the username or the password or both, or you do not understand what this is about, do the following.

  • Open the SQL SERVER 2014 MANAGEMENT STUDIO.
  • For Server name, the server IP of the machine that the server is installed. If it is installed on your machine, use '127.0.0.1,1433'. Click Connect.
  • Click on the cross next to Security to expand the folder, right click on the Logins folder that appears and click on 'New Login'. Choose  a login name, select 'SQL Server Authentication', choose a password, untick enforce password policy and from the list on the left click on Server Roles. Check all the tickboxes and click OK. Your new user is ready and you should be able to log in.

2. Q. I do not know what I should use as IP address. Where can I find it?
A.To see the IP address of your computer, as a member of your local network, please do the following:

  • Open a cmd window. To do so press simultaneously the windows logo button and the 'R' buttons on your keyboard, type cmd and press 'Enter'.
  • When the cmd window is open, type 'ipconfig' and press 'Enter'.
  • You can see your IP next to the 'IPv4 Address' text.

3. (STEP 5 ) Q. I follow all the steps but when I click next I see a message 'SQL Server Connection Error'. What should I do?
A.Check FAQ 1.

  • Make sure the Database Server Windows Service is running by doing the following:
    • Open the Windows Services list. To do so, on windows search type services and click on the Services or view local services result that appears.
    • Search for the installed Database Server Windows Service. Its name should resemble this: 'SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)'.
    • Right click on it. If it is running, click on 'Restart'. If not, click on Properties, select as startup type 'Automatic', click on 'Start' and then 'OK'.
  • If you want to connect to an existent database, make sure you have typed its name correctly- it is Case-Sensitive.
If you are attempting to connect using named instance name, please make sure that the Service SQL Server Browser for this instance is up and running. Also, be aware that using this method doesn't work for the default named SQL instances (MSSQLSERVER).
  • If nothing of the above works, try to do the same process with the option 'Encrypt database password' unticked and with your antivirus and Windows firewall disabled. If this solves the problem, contact your IT to configure your antivirus and network to allow the use of CostOS.

4.  Q(STEP 9) I get error messages during the waiting process. What should I do?
A. Make sure you have enough privileges to access the folder you are trying to install CostOS Server on. Also, there might just not be enough size on the disk, or Filestream has not been previously enabled and enabling it automatically failed, possibly due to criteria mentioned in STEP 6 not being met.

If you are not sure about this, contact your System Administrator or IT Manager.
